4 Things To Talk To Your Boss About

Do you talk to your boss regularly, or do you avoid speaking to them at all? Many people dislike talking to their boss as they feel intimidated and under pressure. However, if you never discuss certain things with your boss you may start to become unhappy at work. It is important that you two are on the same page and are working towards similar goals – check out 4 things you should talk about with your boss.

1. Your ideas regarding the company – From improving office conditions to working towards the company goal, you may have ideas that could improve the company you work for. You know the business well and your suggestions could help both the company and your career, so don’t be afraid to bring up the possibility of change with your boss.

2. Career advancement – Will you still be working at the same company in 5 years? If so, you should discuss the prospect of career advancement with your boss. This means your boss knows what you want to achieve, and if it is bad news you can find out before you invest too much of your time. Some companies will be unable to offer you a raise or a promotion, and you should know that before you start working towards one.

3. Life outside of work – You may want to keep your social life private at work, and that is completely understandable. However, make sure you’re not alienating yourself from your boss – while you may not want to discuss what you did over the weekend, there is no harm in talking about TV shows you like or your favorite meal. Little talks about the things you both enjoy will help you both to see each other as real people, in turn strengthening your professional bond.

4. Advice about work – If you are struggling with a project you may want to completely avoid your boss, but it is better for both of you if you go to your boss to ask them for advice. They know the company well and they want you to succeed in your role. Don’t lean on your boss for support all of the time, but if you are struggling they will help you to get back on track.

What did you think of this list? I know there is a stereotype that most people hate their bosses, but in my experience this isn’t always true. Don’t get me wrong – I know a lot of bosses can be lazy, selfish and disinterested! What is your boss like? Do you get along? Let me know with a comment!
I hope you’re all having a great week! πŸ™‚

My boss always asks us for feedback, the problem is she gets annoyed when people highlight things that need improving.

That is pretty annoying. Why ask if you don’t want to hear? Some bosses are difficult!

I think she asks for feedback because that is what a good leader is supposed to do. When she realizes the suggestions are more work for her she switches off.
