It can be tough to work from home. Unlike in an office, there are no co-workers or bosses – but there is a TV filled with new episodes of your favorite TV shows. If you struggle to work from home, use these four methods to become more productive.
Organize your day
It can be very useful to plan your day before you start. Many people who work from home struggle to switch the laptop off and stop working (or start!), and they often forget to take breaks or eat food, which leaves them feeling burned out. Plan your full working day before it starts, including breaks.
Don’t be unrealistic
It is important to be ambitious, but being unrealistic can demotivate you. It would be great to complete 12 hours of work each day before working out at the gym – but it is unrealistic. Instead set daily working goals that are both achievable and challenging.
If you work from home it is likely that you work alone. This can be demotivating as it sometimes feels like you have no-one to share ideas with. If you feel this way, consider speaking to your house-mates about your work or joining a forum where you can share and discuss ideas with other people.
You can motivate yourself by planning rewards for completing difficult tasks. You can reward yourself with a snack, or a quick break, or even a glass of wine during the evening. Try telling someone else about your goal so that you don’t feel tempted to cheat!
