HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATING

How To Stop Procrastinating

Do you struggle to stop procrastinating? Many people wake up hoping for a productive and focused day, but then procrastination strikes. Don’t let your days be unproductive; check out 7 ways to stop procrastinating.

1. Make a practical to-do list; instead of writing down the things you know you will get done no matter what, write a list of the jobs you don’t like doing – then set a deadline.

2. Make sure you are doing the right things; there are lots of things you can be doing, and only a few things that will NEED doing. Focus on completing the tasks that need doing first, and move on to the other, less important tasks once you’ve finished.

3. If you have a long and difficult task to complete, break it down into smaller chunks to help you feel less overwhelmed. This way, you will notice that you are accomplishing things while working on the task, which will help you to stay feeling motivated.

4. Take away temptation; remove all possible distractions before you start working. If you struggle with social media, consider downloading Cold Turkey; this app allows to temporarily block websites while you work to help you stay focused.

5. Implement consequences; think of one of your little treats, from chatting online to friends to having chocolate cake for pudding. If you don’t finish the task, take away your reward for the day to make sure you won’t do the same again the next day.

6. Reward yourself; if you finish this long project, you can treat yourself to a trip to the cinema. Rewarding good work will help you to be productive during the day – and it means you’ll have a great evening, too!

7. Tell other people about your intentions. Once other people know about your work commitments, you may feel more obliged to finish them. After all, it is pretty hard to come up with a reason for why they haven’t been finished – other than pesky procrastination! Good luck staying motivated!

What did you guys think of this post? Sometimes I can really struggle to stay motivated – you may have noticed this in my post ‘A Day In The Life Of A Freelancer’! However, these tips do help me personally to stay focused and make sure I have a productive working day. Do you have any other tips that work for you? I’d love to hear them!

Great tips! Especially doing the things that actually need to be done first – I think my problem is always wasting time wish doing not-so-important stuff haha

Good tips. To your writing question, here’s a questions that you must answer to yourself … Why are you blogging? What do you expect to get out of blogging? … just stuff to ponder.

Haha I personally started blogging to connect with other writers and freelancers – working from home can get lonely 🙂 What about yourself?
